We encountered one patient with epidermoid cysts in the epiglottis. In 1992, a 54-year-old woman complaining of dysphagia consulted the hospital because of acute pharyngitis. At that time, a cyst was detected in the epiglottis. Because of dysphagia 5 years later, she again came to the hospital. The number of cysts had increased to 6. On fiberscopic laryngoscopy, the 6 cysts appeared yellowish. We approached the cysts by direct laryngoscope under general anesthesia and completely removed all 6 cysts. Each of 6 cysts had become entirely independent. Scissors, forceps, CO2 laser and electrotome were all used effectively. The surgical duration was 35 minutes with minimal bleeding. Histopathological examination demonstration the cystic walls consisted of stratified squamous epithelium and were therefore diagnosed as epidermoid cysts. This diagnosis matched the findings on fiberscopic laryngoscopy.
For 6 years postoperatively, there has been no recurrence.

Key words : epidermoid cyst, dermoid cyst, laryngomicrosurgery
