- The castle was originally built in 1603 to be the official Kyoto residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun Ieyasu.

- Ninomaru Garden. Traditional Japanese garden. In the center of the pond are three islands called Horai-jima(Iskand of Eternal Happiness), Tsuru-jima(Crane Island), and Kame-jima(Turtle Island).
The design of the garden is attributed to the reknown tea master and landscape architect Kobori Enshu(1579-1647).
