Hitou-tei has wide entrance (usually tea house has very small entrance about 60 cm square) for the reason of this tea room has been used for the Emperor Kokaku. The another opening which has same size of the entrance is a window.
The Hitou-tei is located on a artificial hill of the garden so that these openings provide wide view of the garden below.
A round window
A pair of shelves for swords called Katana-kake and a round window suggest clouds and a moon.
hitou-tei is a counryhouse style tea house constructed in about 1771-1801.
The niche is a uniqe type of Toko-no-ma called Hora-doko.
The wall is artificially colored by sabi(rusts) so that the wall is called Sabi-kabe.
The variation of the ceiling should be noticed.
Ryokaku-tei (Important Cultural Properties)
This tea house is said that this was originally in the house of Ogata Korin(painter 1658-1716, Edo Period). The plan is a replica of Joan (designed by Oda Urakusai).
