OLD MOTHER GOOSE OLD MOTHER GOOSE はたいていの本は最初の４行だけのものが多いようです。 (1)から(7)そこから、突然(15)に飛ぶものもあります。 (1)節から (15)節まであるものは、いま手もとの本では、 「もうひとつのマザー・グース」と「マザー・グース」をたずねての２冊です。 (1) Old Mother Goose, when She wanted to wander, Would ride through the air On a very fine gander. マザーグースおばあちゃん お散歩はいつも、 がちょうに乗って空を飛ぶ。 (2) Mother Goose had a house, 'Twas built in a wood, An owl at the door For a porter stood. マザーグースのおうちは 森のなか。 ドアにはふくろうが 見張り番。 (3) She had a son Jack, A plain-looking lad, He was not very good, Nor yet very bad. マザーグースには息子がひとり 名前はジャック。 ごくごくふつうの男の子、 良くもなく悪くもなく。 (4) She went him to market, A live goose he bought: "Here! mother," says he, "It will not go for nought." マザーグースは息子をつれて 市場へ行った。 息子はがちょうを買った。 ちょっとしたもんだと息子は自慢した。 (5) Jack's goose and her gander Grew very fond; They'd both eat togeter, Or swim in our pond. ジャックのがちょうとマザーグースの雄がちょう 立派に大きくなった。 二羽のがちょうはよく食べて、 池で泳いだ。 (6) Jack found one morning, As I have been laid him An egg of pure gold. ある朝ジャックは、 自分のがちょうが 金色のたまごを抱いているのを見つけた。 (7) Jack ran to his mother, The news for to tell. Who cheated out of A half of his due. ジャックは金のたまごを ちょいと怪しげな商売をする商人に売ってしまった。 (9) Then Jack went a courting A lady as the lily. And sweet as the May. (10) The merhant and squire Soon came at his back. And began belabour The siders of poor Jack. (11) Then old Mother Goose That instant came in, And turned her son Jack, Into famed Harlequin. (12) She then with her wand Touched the lady so fine, And turned her at once Into sweet Columbine. (13) The Gold egg in the sea Was thrown away then. When an old fish brought her The egg back again. (14) The merchant then vowed The goose he would kill, Relolving at once His pockets to fill. (15) Jack's mother came in. And caught the goose soon.
