Nurikobe Jizoh
Guardian Dity for dental health

Nurikobe 23KB
There are various theories with respect to the origin of the name, "Nurikobe". "Nurikobe" is a corrupted version of the Japanese word of "Nurikome", which means "to seal up with something like plaster". From the folk lore, it is said that you can seal up the pain of one’s tooth with plaster as the Guardian Deity deified in the small shrine was sealed up. This Guardian Deity was originally enshrined at a more western side of where the current police academy is. Because of the military facilities that were being constructed in this area during the end of Meiji period into the Taisho period, the Guardian Deity was moved to its present location.
The memorial service of Nurikobe Jizoh is performed during "The Cavity Prevention Day" on June 4 of every year.
