Uki Uki TRUE? LIES! JOURNAL
UkiUki Short Novel
Pride
by Ukiyoye Taroh (April 10, 1997)

In 2000!
Our football team Kyoto Purple Sanga is in its golden age and is keeping the primacy in the struggle for a Championship.
Rivals are Urawa Reds, Kashima Antlers, Cerezo Osaka, Jubilo Iwata, Nagoya Grampus, and Verdy Kawasaki.

One day when Sanga had a game with Verdy, a newspaper featured the Past of Sanga. The headline said,
'Kyoto Sanga's disgraceful past!
17 successive defeats in 1996, The League Record!!'

A editor who supports one of Sanga's rivals did it. He had expected that the players of Sanga would lose a pride in their team and would be dispirit reading the feature.

What a mean and foolish plot!

In Sanga in 2000, there's no players who experienced the 17 successive defeats already.
All the players in 2000 play for their own present and future. What they can be proud of is not the past of the team, but the past and the present and the future of their own. How could the past of the team, in other words the past of the other players, dispirit them?

The intention of the editor failed, and Sanga defeated Verdy to keep the leading position.

Note

What gives us pride and patriotism?

In Japan since last year,
I've seen a lot of weird articles
which strongly insist that
teaching the dark past of the country to teenagers
is harmful for their patriotism.

Good grief!!
