POEM of CICADA?
(July 9, 1998)

SUMMER, SUMMER, SUMMERRRRRRRR!
The Rainy Season is GONE!
SUMMER HAS COME EARLIER THAN USUAL!
HA, HA. HA, HA, HOW HAPPY!!

There are lots of semis (cicadas) composing and singing poems.
It reminds me of a tanka (a 31-syllable Japanese poem) that was composed by Semimaru in eary Heian era (794~1192).

Koreya kono yukumo kaerumo

shirumo shiranumo

From the Card game of Hyakunin-isshu, the Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets.

Key Word

Semimaru

Semimaru was a poet and musician who is famous for his unique name like cicada.
Above poem means (I guess);
'There are so many people passing by a barrier station of Oosaka-no-seki.
Who knows where these lonesome passers-by go?'
