Kitano-Tenman-guu Shrine
(Near from; Kitano-Hakubai-cho Station of Keifuku line,
Kitano-Tenman-guu mae of Kyoto City Bus.)
(May 7, 1998)

Kitano-Tenman-guu (or Tenjin-san) enshrines Sugawara Michizane (845-903) as a god of studies.

In the shrine, there are statues of cows that are said to make people wise. If you wish to be wise, please stroke on the statue. Then, you may find yourself wiser than few seconds before... Believe or not.

Stroke, stroke...

On the 25th days of every months, Tenjin-san fair is held in the shrine. It is a kind of antique or used things fair.

In February, we can enjoy wonderful ume blossoms.
And now in May, we can see lots of fruits of the umes.
In Japan, ume is used as a ingredient of liquor and pickles, but don't dare to steal umes from the shrine if you aren't willing to be fool.

The umes, Japanese apricots.

Key Word

Written Oracles of Tenjin-san

Many young people who wish to pass exams come to worship the shrine.
As is often the case with shrines, Omikujis (written oracles) are sold here, but bewear not to be dissapointed when you get a bad oracle.
About 10 years ago, two friends and I passed exams of our university after getting 'BAD' oracles of this shrine.
Do your best, that is the best.
