Neurinoma of the base of tongue is relatively rare, and only 36 cases have been reported in Japan so far.
We reported a case of a 30-year-old female suffering from giant neurinoma (of the size of 50×45×40 mm) of the base of tongue, who underwent removal of the tumor by an intraoral median glossotomy translingual approach. It is not necessary to perform pharyngotomy or mandibulotomy with this approach, which allows a wide view of the root of the tongue and carries little risk of cosmetic and functional complications.
