We report pharyngeal amyloidosis of a 77-year-old woman. Her chief complaints were abnormal sense in the throat and snoring. Fiberscopic examination revealed a red and partially yellowish smooth mass in the pharynx. Under general anesthesia, surgical resection was carried out using a carbon dioxide laser (CO2 laser). Histopathological examination revealed a positive staining for Congo red staining and Amyoid P. Consequently we diagnosed amyloidosis from these result. As systemic amyloidosis was excluded by several clinical examinations, she was diagnosed with localized amyloidosis of the pharynx. The postoperative course of the patient was uneventful.

Key words : pharynx, amyloidosis, carbon dioxide laser
