オリガ(Olga or Volga)

olga.jpg 伝説上のキエフの女戦士の女王。ロシア南部の部族にたいそう尊敬されたため、カトリック教会は彼女を受け入れ、偽りの聖人の一人として列聖せざるを得なかった[1]。古い年代記によると、オリガは異教の雷神ピエルンPyerun(Piorun, Peron)の加護を祈念してから、戦士を率い戦場に赴いたという[2]

The wife of the duke of Kiev, Igor I, who ruled Russia after he was assassinated. She became Christian in 958 and tried to spread the faith in her country, but failed. She ruled until she died.

Her grandson Vladimir succeeded in doing this though.
