+ The purpose of this project is to explain the key terms in both Japanese and English to understand the articles in "Kinmokusei" published by Restoration from the Hanshin Earthquake Disaster / Supporters Network for Community Development "Machizukuri".
+ "Kinmokusei" was the newsletter published right after the earthquake to exchange the information and to support the communications among the professionals who consulted and supported the restoration in the community. The newsletters reported the restoration projects of the Network members and gave out the information of the restoration activities in the damaged area. These reports and information are precise records of actual conditions of the restoration from the earthquake disaster in the urban area. They gave us a lot of lessons about the future Machizukuri: community development.
+ This book consists of 4 parts with 47 key term and 29 examples from the articles of "Kinmokousei":
Part 1: Machizukuri (9 key terms)
Part 2: Restoration of the built-up area (20 key terms)
Part 3: Housing (8 key terms)
Part 4: Systems and Programs (10 key terms)
These key terms are chosen with the purpose for the better understanding of "Kinmokusei" and do not cover the whole community development activities of restoration. This book, however, is enough to help you to grasp the actual condition of the restoration in Kobe and Hanshin area.
+ KINMOKUSEI INTERNATIONAL PROJECT Working Group has worked for about an year to make this book with help of Network members and a lot of volunteers who worked for translations. Moreover, we would like to express our special appreciation to Ms C. Bauman, the planner of San Francisco City, who proofed our English translations. This project is also supported by the aid from Rokkou Island Fund , Hanshin Awaji Renaissance Fund, and Hanshin Awaji Community Fund.
