Exhibition of panel and movable hedge by Hashin Green Net
Landscape Reconstruction Supporting Committee (Hanshin Green Net) held a symposium with the theme of "Think about Machizukuri emphasizing greenery" at the Phoenix Plaza in Sannomiya on Oct. 5, 1996. About 120 people attended. Hanshin Green Net, Donguri Net Kobe, Hyogo Green Network, Ganbaro Kobe and Co-op Green Net reported their activities. It was recognized that greenery and flowers improved the environment of temporary housing, and comforted the victims. The following topics were discussed in the meeting:
1. Creation of desirable parks for residents with the participation of residents.
2. Support for residents in caring for plants and flowers in their daily lives.
3. Technical support from specialists to help generate ideas that will have broad views and long-term perspective.
4. Incorporation of nature into townscape design.
5. Starting a new network of Machizukuri organizations using green ideas
After the discussion, the attendees reached the following conclusions.
1) Residents, local government, specialists and supporting volunteers should cooperate with each other closely and widely to promote Machizukuriwith greenery.
2) It is important that landscape architects and related specialists positively take part in the reconstruction in the land readjustment area.
3) The Machizukuri process should recognize the importance of greenery in rebuilding.
4) New parks, which can be loved by residents, should be created with citizen involvement, such as workshops etc.
