"Report of Machidukuri for restoraiton 97" by Network to support restoration after the Hanshin Great Earthquake
 After the Hanshin Great Earthquake the volunteers' activities took shape rapidly during "the first year of volunteers". In machizukuri, many network organizations started up right after the Earthquake and developed independent activities making the most of their individual skills. At the present moment, many networks continue their activities, and they play important roles in machizukuri for restoration.

Classification of supporters' network

 There are various kinds of networks to support machizukuri. The purpose, the form of organization and the specialties of supporters vary. They are roughly divided into two;
 "Comprehensive Supporting Network" and "Exclusive Supporting Network". There are about 18 networks now. ("Network to Support Restoration after the Hanshin Great Earthquake" by Ikuo Kobayashi ["Zohkei" No.7, 9702]
 〈Comprehensive Supporting Network〉---"Supporters' Network for Machizukuri for Restoration after the Hanshin Great Earthquake", "Kobe Fukko Juku", and "Supporting Organization for Hanshin-Awaji Machizukuri", etc.
 Networks to support "the machizukuri by citizens" were organized right after the Earthquake and remain active. The networks include Machizukuri planners, city planners, architects, and other specialists, as well as other professionals. Many leaders of the residents in designated project areas are involved in these networks.
 〈Exclusive Supporting Network〉--"Supporting Team for Joint Reconstruction", "Hanshin Green-Net", "Collective Housing Project Promoting Aid", etc.
 This is a network to focused on a specific topic, such as joint building projects, tree planting, and housing, etc. which are basic element in machizukuri. However if the relationship with residents or the area is deepened, not only exclusive but also comprehensive supporting will be required.

What we learned from the Earthquake Disaster ---The provisions before the Earthquake is critical

 The activities mentioned above developed in the disaster afflicted urban areas as the machizukuri process has involved the residents extensively. The Mizutani Seminar, an independent program for machizukuri consultant/planners, has been held since a few years before the Earthquake and became the base of the network activities after the Earthquake.
