How to Develop Fluency in Speech at the Same Pace as Accuracy in Usage

2) The Stimu-Con Usage Games make it possible for teachers - even with large classes - to monitor closely their students' conversational exchanges and to check their grammar, pronunciation, intonation, and ability to use socially acceptable American English. Further, as these accuracy in usage activities involve single coherent sequential exchanges, learners at various levels of proficiency can interact together, making these games truly "multi-level."

While it is common, convenient, and effective to organize dialogues on the basis of language functions or general situations to develop fluency in speech, it is not suitable for the effective teaching of accuracy in usage because the details of the conversational setting are often more important in deciding the language we need. In a real sense then, it is only possible to teach students the appropriate use of language when the details of a conversational setting are clearly discernible.
