The combination of a linear and non-linear format facilitates teaching or learning a foreign language more than a words-only or a words-and-pictures format because it is not exclusively linear (as is the former) and does not use pictures redundantly (as does the latter).. |
The picture-word format is also capable of presenting visual (non-linear) and linguistic (linear) information clearly and synchronously, combining both parts into a coherent whole. Conversational settings, as a result, have a lot more context and are easy to grasp; situations, characters, facial expressions, gestures, age, gender, topics, social relationships, attitudes, and even "action" can all be demonstrated more effectively through the use of a combined text than with the other two formats. |
