How to Develop Fluency in Speech at the Same Pace as Accuracy in Usage

No doubt these arguments are reasonable and valid but nonetheless dependent on the use of a words-only or a words-and-pictures format. However, when a picture-word format is used to teach a language the problem of teaching language in context and usage is simplified to a great extent as will become evident in this article.
Athough applied linguists emphasize the need to teach learners the importance of usage, again by acknowledging a words-only or a words-and-pictures format (to the exclusion of a picture-word format) in academic and status-conscious journals, the outcome is a complete halt to progress in this intellectual sphere. Unless, therefore, language teachers and applied linguists undertake a critique of all three types of formats and become aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each, problems such as how to teach socially appropriate language and other similar problems will not be amenable to a solution.
